Peering Into Paradise

Peering Into Paradise | $40

by Zach Doehler

69/100 Left 100 NEW
"I captured this image on our second day visiting the Rockies. I was very much hoping for some nice weather with scattered puffy clouds so that I would get images with some context in the sky. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the day ended up being completely clear and I would be lying if I said I wasn't bummed out at the time. I seriously thought I wouldn't get any interesting images from that day, but little did I know what would occur a couple months later. When I eventually opened up the shot on my computer many weeks after I had captured it, I decided to give this high-noon photo a go, despite my reluctant attitude. The edit went rather well and I sent it to my phone and kept it there until I felt it was the right time to post it. Finally, one Friday night just recently I decided to post it. It exploded, amassing over 25,000 likes in less than 24 hours and being featured all over Instagram. It totally shocked me considering I wouldn't have expected that to happen to any of my photos let alone one I wasn't too fond of at first. It was an amazing reminder to me of how important it is to be open-minded in photography. Although most landscape photographers will always tell you to try to shoot only around sunrise and sunset; you really can't go wrong with some midday shooting here and there. The results may surprise you. This planet we live on is beautiful, at all times of the day." - Zach Doehler

"This was my first time visiting Lake Louise. Ever since I first got into landscape photography, I had dreams about going here. It's such a picturesque location. Beautiful blue waters surrounded by mountains, high up in the alpine; it doesn't get much better than that. We came to visit here in the Fall. Considering the temperatures get so low in the Rockies during the colder months, there was already a decent amount of snow when we arrived. But thankfully, the lakes hadn't frozen over yet so we got to enjoy beautiful open reflections. This was one of my favorite shots that I captured while I was here. A few weeks later, I opened it up on my computer and tried my best to really emphasize the vibes I got from this place when I was there. I wanted to bring out those blue waters while also putting emphasis on the warm colors from the sunset. This was the final result." - Zach Doehler

"The picture is taken of Kallurin, the most northern point of the island Kalsoy. Its a very remote place, always windy, and you gotta mind your steps here so you don't fall hundreds of meters down into the ocean. I always wanted to capture Kallurin on a very stormy day, so that's what I did. I had to struggle through harsh wind, hail and getting complete soaked by the heavy rain. It was freezing and I had to find a safe angle to shoot from. It's a great challenge for any landscape photographer to shoot under these conditions." Rannvá Joensen

But I got lucky to capture this single photo before the battery level got too low and had to fly the drone back home." - Rannvá Joensen

The abandoned village of Slættanes. I've always heard many stories about this place as a child and now being older I just had to check it out. There are no trails to Slættanes and after 8 hours of hiking and almost giving up I reached the village. It's a very special place, almost too quiet, and peeking into the windows it looks like the villagers just left all their belongings behind. Somehow I feel like I'm very drawn to remote places where no noise exist. The challenge was finding this place and staying warm without any shelter while it was pouring down. Rannvá Joensen

This is 'Dusk'

The Golden collection was one of our first, and inspired by the industrial design found in luxurious Manhattan lofts. Created in collaboration with the incredible Zachary Doehler, who’s glowing landscape artwork have decorated these walls since the start of Walltones. The key takeaway is, if you have a darker interior, warmer colours work wonders.

'Peering Into Paradise'

"Every so often I like to take a day to go drive somewhere and shoot from sunrise to sunset. It's an excellent way to take a break from the busyness of life and enjoy some quality time on the road and out in nature. This photo was taken on one of those days. I decided to drive to Horne Lake Provincial Park to capture some post-sunrise photos. Much to my surprise when I arrived, there was not a single person in sight. I had the whole place to myself. The colors that were still present in the clouds were stunning and the reJections were crisp as glass. This ended up being one of my favorite photos to end off 2018. I am so happy that I took the time to go out and shoot that day." - Zach Doehler

A room created as an homage to the postmodern art streams that currently dominate Instagram. We felt like the only way to truly honour this trend of art was by creating a room that is equally as extravagant and creative. Later we teamed up with @seamlessoo and found that his work matched this collection fabulously.
